ZLF celebrates its jubilee: 125. Bavarian Central Agricultural Festival

Munich (bbv) - The ZLF is more than 100 years old. Its history is based on the wedding of the bavarian crown prince Ludwig with princess Therese of Sachsen-Hildburghausen. They married 1810. Many things have changed since that time.
In 1811, the exhibition of agriculture presented three pigs. 193 years later, in 2004, 500 animals were shown. The horse race of former times has been substituted by a coloured programme of Horse Sports and –breeding. In 2004 more than 6 Million people visited the exhibition.
The most important milestones of the ZLF´s history:
October, 12th, 1810
At the wedding of crown prince Ludwig and princess Therese 6000 guests celebrate a party for 5 days. The highlight is a horse race on October, 17th. The area the wedding takes place is called Theresienwiese, in English Therese´s meadow - because of the first name of Ludwigs bride.
1811
In addition to the horse race various animals are presented to the visitors. Not only the first Bavarian but also the first German agricultural exhibition is born.
1812
The annually party gets its name “Zentral-Landwirtschaftsfest”.
1816
Innovative machines and technologies for improvement of cultivation are shown at ZLF.
1818
A highlight especially for children: the first roundabout rotates.
